** Troop Tribune ———————————————————— Summer Camp Payment Due The second summer camp payment of $150 is now due. Please see Mr. Washington to make your payment.
Swim Checks Our troops will have a BSA Swim Check session on Sunday April 7th at the Mason Community Center. We will rent one lane of the competition pool from 2 to 3pm so that those who do not belong to the Center will not need to pay for admission. For full participation in any water related activities, BSA rules require each person, youth or adult, to have qualified as a Swimmer within the past 12 months. This is especially important for the canoe trip and summer camp but will apply to any aquatic activity with the troops. Persons who only qualify as Beginners are restricted in what they can do, and Non Swimmers are restricted even more.
Swimmer qualification: Jump into the water and swim 75 yards using any of the following strokes. Crawl, racing back, breast, side, or Trudgen. Next swim 25 yards using the resting or elementary back stroke and finish by demonstrating a back float.
Beginner qualification: Jump into the water and swim 25 yards, then return to the starting point.
In both cases holding onto the side of the pool is not allowed.
If there are a lot of people we will extend the time until 3pm but only for Community Center members. Because of that, from 2 to 3 we will give priority to non members. As time, space, and instructors permit, people can do 1st or 2nd Class or Merit Badge requirements. At the April 4th meeting please let us know if you are coming, your phone number, and whether or not you are a Community Center member.
For questions contact Mr. Walker at (513) 398-1516, trwalk40@gmail.com (mailto:trwalk40@gmail.com) or Mr. Weaver at (513) 403-4112, stewart.weaver@gmail.com (mailto:stewart.weaver@gmail.com) .
If you aren’t able to go to the swim test at the Mason Community Center on April 7th at 2:00, the test is offered the first Sunday of the month from 12-1 at Countryside YMCA. Cost is $5 if you are not a Y member. We are planning to have another session on May 19 but that is not firm yet.
Church Workdays Thank you to everyone who came out to help clean-up the meditation garden at the church this past weekend. There will be a second church workday on May 11th from 8am – 1pm. More details to come.
Jason Clabbers Eagle Project Hello, this is Jason Clabbers and I have my eagle project April 19th and 20th. I am building 10, 6-8 foot flat wood benches for Fort Ancient.
On Friday, April 19th I am going to need a couple of older scouts and adults as this day is mainly harvesting the heavy, large trunks for my benches. I have one adult who can use a chainsaw that has proper training but I would like another as well. If anyone has proper training of a chainsaw please contact me. On Friday we will also be harvesting the wood for the legs of the bench as well.
On Saturday, April 20th, I am constructing the benches, here I would need about approximately 8 scouts and 4 adults. I will be making the legs of the bench shorter sections of the body of the bench, which will be drilled onto the bench the opposite direction in order to support the bench.
Please contact me at clabbersja@gmail.com if you can come, it would be greatly appreciated.
Philmont 2020 Updates There will be a meeting for all adult leaders attending Philmont in 2020 during the meeting on April 18th. Please email Ben Zumkehr if you can’t attend.
Mulch Delivery Day Please make sure you have your calendar blocked for April 27^th, mulch delivery day. We will start at 7am and hope to finish by 8pm. We will need as many hands as possible to make it a successful close to our fundraiser. Mr. Kehl will be coordinating the delivery trucks and scouts. If anyone has a pickup truck they would drive and or a trailer that we could use for the day would be greatly appreciated. We will also need drivers for chase cars to drive scouts around to help unload the trucks.
Mulch Sale We have two weeks left to sell. Sale closes on April 18^th at the end of our Troop meeting. Please make sure you have talked to all the previous customers and double back with any potential customers. If you had any customers say they would buy on-line and you don’t know if they did, stop by on Thursday evening and we can check your sales quickly for you. We still have some free territories if you want another to cover. We will also have more flyers at the meeting if you need them. Keep knocking on those doors!
